Who: Open to all
What: Naruto buying his books at the last minute
When: August 30th
Where: Campus bookstore
Rating: PG-13

Naruto shifted uncomfortably and glanced at the shelf.

Of course they were out. So far he'd only been able to find one book, his history book. Everything else seemed to be out of stock. Leave it to the blonde to wait until classes had alreay started to buy his books. At this point in time, it was unlikely he would be able to find all the texts he needed. It was his own fault though.

"Goddammit. Now what am I going to do?" he asked himself, pacing back and forth and glancing at the empty shelves. To top it all off, his history book--the one book the did have--was a hundred dollars.

"At least my ramen is cheap..."

"But...you have to take this book back!"

Tenten sent a desperate look at the cashier, only to be brushed off and told no again. Just her luck that she managed to purchase the incorrect book for her Biology class and now the bookstore wouldn't take the book back or exchange it.

"Come on, please? Just this once?" No, sales are final. "But...it was a mistake! Surely you've made a mistake before!" FINAL! Now go away!

With an angry sigh, she jammed the book into her messenger bag and stormed into the store towards the Science section. Great, now she had to spend another $100 for the correct book. How tempted she was to just throw the now useless book at the nearest object.

The blonde watched as the young female approached his part of the store. The look on her face seemed to imply she was in a similar situation that he was in. That thought brightened his mood a bit, and his trademark grin spread across his face as he waited for her to get closer. Maybe Naruto wasn't the only idiot who had waited until the last minute.

Tucking his history book under his arm, he waved happily at the approaching girl. "Oiii, you forget to buy your books too? Yeah, I was super busy and didn't have time to come get mine until today..."

So far, even he was believing his lie.
31st-Aug-2009 01:39 am (UTC)
Tenten was in the middle of deciding what would be a good target for said book when she noticed a cute blonde guy waving at her. Arching an eyebrow, she smiled slightly, the anger from earlier slowly melting away.

"Ah...not exactly." she replied as she stopped in front of him, a hand nervously running through her hair. "I've already bought my books except..." Her face twisted into a scowl. "...I bought the wrong Biology book and the evil cashier won't let me exchange it."

To prove her point, she opened up her messenger bag and showed him the Biology book before allowing her eyes to slide over to the shelf behind him. A groan escaped when she saw the shelf empty. You'd think the cashier would've taken the stupid book back knowing that they were out and someone could possibly need it!
31st-Aug-2009 01:52 am (UTC)
Naruto grunted quietly as she explained her predicament. So maybe it was too much to think that there was someone else out there who procrastinated as much as he did. In any case, he sighed and nodded as she mentioned the cashier. He'd had some run-ins with said employee in the past so he knew what she had gone through.

"Damn. Yeah, that sucks," he replied scratching the back of his head slowly. "Ummm, my first semester I got Physics and my Phys Ed classes mixed up and I had this shitty physics book that cost me a crapload of money and didn't even need..." He glanced away quickly, trying to hide his shame.

And then his blue eyes glanced back and caught a glimpse of the book she was displaying. "Oh... hey! That's one of the books I need!"
31st-Aug-2009 01:58 am (UTC)
Her eyebrow rose again in amusement, secretly happy that she hadn't been the only one to mess up when it came to purchasing books. Thankfully this had been her first offense. Not that the cashier seemed to care.

Her eyes lit up when the boy mentioned that the damnable book she was stuck with just happened to be one of the ones he needed. Hmm, maybe this would work out after all... she thought to herself. "Hey, any chance you'd be interested buying it off of me?" she asked, tilting her head. "I don't need it and they won't buy it back..."

"I'll even give you a discount...$50."
31st-Aug-2009 02:10 am (UTC)
His hand quickly shot backwards and into his back pocket, fishing for his wallet. He pulled it out and opened it quickly, looking inside for what little money he had. It was a wonder he had survived this long on the meager amounts he had collected here and there from oddjobs. A steady payng job was something he had been meaning to find, and the only reason he was able to attend school was because of hardship scholarships.

"Hell yeah! The other day, the professor asked me to read and I had to tell him I didn't have the book yet and he was all like 'Blahblah Mr. Uzumaki coming unprepared to class blahblah' and a few people laughed. Ahhh it's cool though. Dude has a stick up his ass or something..." Still grinning like an idiot, he scratched his cheek idly and looked at the young girl. "...What were we talking about?"

Furrowing his brow as he ran the past few moments through his head, he quickly came to a realization and nodded eagerly. "Oh, yeah. Sure thing. Fifty bucks, yeah?" Pulling out two twenties and a ten--the last of his supply--he happily held out the paper money.
31st-Aug-2009 02:16 am (UTC)
Tenten was biting her lip, trying to hold back laughter as the blonde boy, whose last name was apparently Uzumaki, rambled on. Taking the cash from him, she handed over the book with a smile. "Well, glad that my mistake worked out in your favor." she joked, sending him a friendly smile then realized she hadn't even introduced herself.

"Oh! How rude of me...I'm Tenten, by the way." she replied, holding out her free hand.
31st-Aug-2009 02:31 am (UTC)
He slid his newly bought book into his bag before turning his gaze back to her and smiling. "Name's Naruto. Naruto Uzumaki. Nice to meet ya." His hand moved forward and grasped hers in a firm handshake, the smile never leaving his face. The blonde would have never thought he would have met someone new coming to the bookstore. If he had to guess, he would have assumed the place would have been deserted.

Releasing her hand, he grabbed his wallet from his other hand and tucked it back into his pocket before shifting his history book into a more comfortable position. "So, what sorta classes you got?"
31st-Aug-2009 02:35 am (UTC)
She shook his hand before shifting slightly, the friendly smile never leaving her face. "Nice to meet you, Naruto..."

"And just the basics so far..." She reached into her messenger bag, pulling out a neatly folded schedule. "Statistics, biology, history..." She wouldn't admit it, but she was really looking forward to her history class. Her eyes darted over to the book he was holding and she smiled. "Which just happens to be the history that you're apparently taking."

Maybe they would be in class together. It would be nice to know someone on the first day.
31st-Aug-2009 02:13 am (UTC)
To anyone in the vicinity, it was clear that the rosette was pissed off. She clenched her handbag tightly in one hand over her shoulder and marched toward the student bookstore at her college. One of the double doors was pushed open roughly and she strode inside the air-conditioned room, most people getting out of her way quickly.

The electronics section was found quickly, and she took a deep, calming breath before shifting through the calculators, trying to find the one she would need for her class and having no luck so far.

"Dammit, if they've run out already I'm gonna-" the rest of her sentence finishes off in a mumble.
31st-Aug-2009 02:22 am (UTC)
Naruto shuffled back towards the front of the store, intent on finding some other supplies since he had no luck when it came to his books. As he passed the electronics, he heard a familar voice in an even more familiar tone. He was overjoyed and frightened all at once. Usually that tone of hers preceeded a punch to his face. With a sigh, he meekly peeked around the corner to see his pink-haired friend.

She seemed awfully angry about something, and he swallowed dryly before gathering his courage. Moving into the aisle, he scratched his cheek.

"Hey, Sakura. What's going on, eh?"
31st-Aug-2009 02:30 am (UTC)
She was scrambling around on different racks in hopes that one was misplaced when she heard the equally familiar voice. "Naruto?" Her expression melted into surprise as she turned her head to face him, eyebrows raised. Blinking once, she darted her eyes down and noticed a book at his side. Ah.

Only Naruto would be able to push procrastination to this level. They were already going into the second week of school.

Maybe, hopefully -for his sake- she was wrong though. "Don't tell me your getting your books just now," she drawled in exasperation, putting her hands on her hips and facing him.
31st-Aug-2009 02:35 am (UTC)
She knew him too well.

He laughed nervously and scratched his cheek once more, glancing off to the side as his face burned a bright crimson. Sakura had always been concerned with his studies, going so far as to drag him to study sessions in the past. He knew she'd disapprove highly of it had taken him this long to finally drag his ass down to the store and buy his books. Shrugging slightly, he turned his gaze back to her and smiled from behind impossibly blue eyes.

"So I won't tell you then... heheh."
31st-Aug-2009 02:46 am (UTC)
A frown marred her face before it smoothed out and she sighed, rubbing her temples. "Geez," she breathed, stepping closer to him and taking his book out of his bag without a word. Her eyes scanned the title before she looked back at him again and placed it back inside.

"Biology again?" a delicate brow lifted once she pulled her hands away. Wasn't that the class he was studying for when they went to that session together? No, this book looked a little different. "What class is this for?"
31st-Aug-2009 02:55 am (UTC)
"Plant Biology or some shit like that..." he replied, nodding slowly. "I passed basic biology last semester, thanks to you." Smiling warmly, he shifted his bag onto his shoulder more comfortably. Actually, he had passed with an A. He wouldn't ever mention that, though. Naruto might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but when he put his mind to something, he could actually surprise a whole lot of people. He worked his ass off to impress Sakura after she had started bringing him to study sessions.

"They were out of the book, but I met this really nice girl and she sold me hers for pretty cheap. It was great." Grinning, he glanced at her and then at the shelves nearby.

"What're you here for?"
31st-Aug-2009 03:05 am (UTC)
At first her expression hardened at his nonchalance at the class before lifting into shock, and then melting into a touched smile. Thanks to her? Nice try. The most she had done was get his ass into gear about school by nagging and trying to get him to go to those study sessions. "That's good, I'm glad," she praised about passing and getting his books even if he was a million years late.

Although it was a very Naruto-like thing to do.

"Calculator," she sighed in annoyance at the reminder, joining him in looking at the shelves and her hands moving some pens to the side in a last attempt to see if it was hidden among the masses. "I left my good one at my parent's and now I have to buy one that'll last at least until I can find time to pick it up. All they have are the basic ones..."
31st-Aug-2009 03:23 am (UTC)
"Ahhh... calculator." He furrowed his brow as his eyes scanned the shelf, failing to catch sight of even the most elementary of calculators. It seemed she was in a predicament almost as bad as he was, but he's sure Sakura wouldn't have put off bookbuying until the last minute. Her mistake was an honest one, while his was completely his fault.

"That sucks. Can't call your parents? Get them to send it to you?" he asked, watching as her hands moved things around the shelf. "Doesn't look like you'll have much luck here either..."
31st-Aug-2009 03:36 am (UTC)
Pulling one of the more simple ones off a shelf, she turned it around in her hands. A long sigh escapes her and she hangs it back up, knowing she could do the basic math that it did in her head, more or less. "You're probably right," she starts and then steps away, folding her arms and looking longingly at the empty spot they should have been.

"My mom called to let me know just a couple of hours ago, told me to pick it up whenever I had time but..." she trails off, shrugging her shoulders. When did a part-time working, full-time student have time? "I don't really want them to send it, because I don't think they know that it cost me a hundred dollars." It's quiet for a while until she exhales loudly.

"Dammit! This sucks.."
31st-Aug-2009 03:42 am (UTC)
The blonde grunted and watched her for a moment, feeling just as bad for her as she was probably feeling herself. He sighed, scratching his head a few times as his eyes wandered back to the shelves. If he had a calculator, he would have gladly given it to her, but he didn't.

He honestly had no idea what he could do, and that annoyed him a bit. She'd helped him several times in the past, and he couldn't do anything for her.

"Ummm, maybe I could go pick it up for you? It's not like I have a hugeass busy schedule..."
3rd-Sep-2009 12:12 am (UTC)
He could see the familiar head of yellow hair off in the distance, while hard enough to miss on it's own Naruto was tall enough that he was easy enough to spot standing next to Sakura. Whom, by his observation appeared to be leaving. Her class was probably starting, and no doubt Konoha's number one noisy college student was standing still in the middle of the hallway - appearing uninterested in heading to class. Some things never changed.

"You're wasting your time getting a degree if you don't plan on going to class, dobe."
3rd-Sep-2009 01:01 pm (UTC)
Naruto smirked and wheeled around on his heels, locking his hands behind his head and glancing at the dark-haired Uchiha. Acquiring one of his needed books, meeting Tenten, and having lunch with Sakura had all put him in an exceedingly good mood that even Sasuke's teasing couldn't jar him from. Snickering and shooting a grin to the other male, Naruto waved him off.

"Pshhhh, I didn't know you cared, Sasuke," he replied, jamming his hands into his pockets. He'd never admit it, but he was actually a bit glad to see someone else he knew. Although the blonde and the raven were as different as day and night, Naruto took as much pleasure in hanging out and harassing Sasuke as much as he suspected the Uchiha did in berating him.
6th-Sep-2009 11:01 pm (UTC)
They could be no more different, that was much apparent as the dark haired Uchiha narrowed his eyebrows ever slightly at his blond companion. One could speculate that they were friends, the kind that took joy in tossing insults and poking fun at one another which was all in good fun as boys were prone to do. Or that they were two rivals that took every available opportunity to deride the other and make him out to look like a bigger idiot. In truth the relationship between Naruto and Sasuke was a sampling of both theories, their friendship while appearing to be strained, was probably the most normalcy the Uchiha ever had. “Tch, as if I cared about whether you flunked out on your ass Uzumaki…” A slight upturn of his mouth indicated that Sasuke was amused at the banter, “If you did, it’d be your own fault for skipping classes you paid for.”
10th-Sep-2009 01:51 pm (UTC) - Dhhsjhdusj So late. sorry
Naruto snickered and shook his head. If he didn't have too much pride, he might've admitted that his hardship scholarships were made possible by the tuition of the other students at the school, meaning if he had flunked, the money wouldn't be out of his pocket and Sasuke's instead. As it stood, however, Naruto was fiercely embarrassed that he was completely broke.

But the good news was he was actually going to class and paying attention for the most part.

"Actually, Sasuke, I've been going to class and taking notes and all that shit," he chirped, grinning happily. "What about you? How do we know you've been going to class?"
15th-Sep-2009 01:15 am (UTC) - Re: Dhhsjhdusj So late. sorry
“You’re taking notes…” the raised note in Sasuke’s voice hinted that he was surprised at the news. For as long as he had known Naruto he’d always been more interested in being the class clown and getting noticed by other people as opposed to buckling down and putting in the study time. Who would have known that he might actually have had it in him to force himself to be responsible. “And the world isn’t facing a worldwide meltdown? Didn’t see that coming.” Without really realizing it, Sasuke noticed that as overtly critical he was of other people and the world around him - he found that Naruto wasn’t nearly as annoying as most people. Probably due to the fact that he’d slowly begun to pull the Uchiha out of his protective shell, and without Sasuke even noticing. A wry smirk formed on his face at Naruto‘s teasing, “What makes you think I’m not going to class? Just because most of them are boring as hell doesn’t mean I’d skip. I don’t take chances with my GPA, dobe.”
20th-Sep-2009 01:28 pm (UTC)
Snickering, the blonde sat his backpack on the ground and jammed his hand inside. After a few moments of shuffling around for something, he seemed to have found it and pulled out an orange notebook. "See? Notes." He opened the notebook and held it chest high for Sasuke to see. Lo and behold, notes.

They weren't by anyone's standards very good or complete, but there they were in his telltale chicken scratch. A while page of history lectures outlined the way Sakura had tried to teach him.

"Yeah, yeah. I know all about GPAs," he informed, rolling his eyes. After he was satisfied Sasuke had seen the notes good enough, he tucked them back into his bag and slung it over his shoulder. "Anyways, what're you up to today? Had class yet?"
